What is A FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM?

Because we are living during a time when Religious Liberty is under attack, the Bishops of the United States are encouraging all Catholics to prayerfully promote the protection of Religious Freedom - our "First Most Cherished Liberty". June 21 to July 4, 2013 is a vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More - men who remained strong in their faith in the face of persecution by political power. In this Year of Faith, the U.S. Bishops are encouraging Catholics to pray and fast on Fridays until November 24, 2013 (Christ the King Sunday) for the intention of the protection of Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty.

The Knights of Columbus Council 15456 is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Red Cross Blood Drive at the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Education Center gym [256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, 19473] on Wednesday, July 3th from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Any registered BTC School or PREP student (boys or girls) who will be in grade/level 5 or 6 in the 2013-2014 school year are invited to sign up. Registration will run through June 30th.

Our struggle for religious liberty that began in 2011 is far from over. It has taken on a renewed urgency, as the Administration's mandate for contraceptive, sterilization and abortifacient coverage will be enforced against nonprofit Catholic school, charities and health care institutions beginning August 1st. Soon, Congress must decide whether it will address this violation of religious freedom before August, by adding the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (H.R. 940) to its next "must-pass" bill (debt limit bill or spending bill) needed to keep the government operating. While we have made some progress, many members of Congress say they are not receiving messages from their constituents about this urgent issue. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Family Life and Laity strongly encourages support H.R. 940. Call or write to your elected Representative even if you have in the past. To send a message, go to http://nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=292 - it will allow you to find your Representative.

If we do not act, taxpayer funds may, for the first time, be used to pay for elective abortions in Pennsylvania. Our state legislature must take steps to prevent abortion coverage in the federal insurance exchanges being set up in PA. Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 818 would prohibit insurance providers that participate in the insurance exchanges from covering elective abortions. Please send a message to your legislators at www.pacatholic.org TODAY requesting that this important pro-life issue be addressed as soon as possible! On average, women give at least 3 reasons for choosing abortion: 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 3/4 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner (AGI).
