Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting as explained by the U.S. bishops means partaking of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or in the evening-depending on when a person chooses to eat the main or full meal. Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, milk products or condiments made of animal fat. Abstinence does not include meat juices and liquid foods made from meat. Thus, such foods as chicken broth, consommé, soups cooked or flavored with meat, meat gravies or sauces, as well as seasonings or condiments made from animal fat are not forbidden. So it is permissible to use margarine and lard. Even bacon drippings which contain little bits of meat may be poured over lettuce as seasoning.
Prayer: More time given to prayer during Lent should draw us closer to the Lord. We might pray especially for the grace to live out our baptismal promises more fully. We might pray for the elect who will be baptized at Easter and support their conversion journey by our prayer. We might pray for all those who will celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation with us during Lent that they will be truly renewed in their baptismal commitment.
Welcome to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta! It is quite an undertaking to keep up-to-date records of our parish membership. If you do not receive monthly mail from the parish, it is an indication that we do not have you registered. If this is the case, please stop by to see the Sunday Receptionist before or after Mass in the Parish Office in the Administration wing of the Church. You may also take home a registration form found in the information rack in the Parish Office hallway. Return the form via dropping it off to the Parish Office Monday-Friday 8:30-4:00pm, return it to the Sunday Receptionist or place it in the collection. We look forward to seeing you!
Our Eucharistic Guardians ensure that the Holy Eucharist is never left unattended. A guardian commits to spending one hour each Wednesday with the Holy Eucharist. Adoration takes place in the Chapel immediately following the 8am Mass up until Holy Hour/Benediction at 7pm. Lately we have had many holes in our schedule. Won't you consider being a part of this very important ministry?
Please join us in saying the Rosary in the Chapel every Sunday at 10am.
Rosaries are provided.
